Electronic Arts DICE seem to have learnt from their past mistakes—with
Star Wars Battlefront 2 and its infamous loot box system—as they have opted out of including loot boxes in
Battlefield V. DICE got a huge amount of flak becuse of that catastrophic inclusion of loot boxes in
Star Wars Battlefront 2 last year, and doing away with that system may be their way of making up for their mistakes.
According to the
Battlefield V official Twitter account, EA DICE plan to make the experience equally enjoyable for all players as they choose to, not only do away with loot boxes, but also with premium passes. This is great news for fans of the franchise given that all maps and modes will be available for everyone who purchases the game.
Loot boxes are definitely a problem that needs to be addressed, especially because they can break a game for everyone—both the ones that paid for them, as well as the ones that didn't— and seeing that developers like EA DICE have decided to get rid of them is reassuring because it means the problem is indeed being addressed. Let's just hope that is the result of them actually learning from their past mistakes and not an attempt to win back some of the fanbase they lost by making promises they may not want to keep.
