Battlefield fans may soon have a better chance to go hands-on with the next iteration of EA's blockbuster shooter. In a development update posted to social media, EA briefly recapped their learnings from their recent play sessions.
They've now validated "establishing a solid foundation for smooth, low-latecy and high-performance gunplay," while also "finding the right balance in movement speed for functionality such as crouch sprint, combat rolling, and vaulting." They've also validated using destruction "to create fun and lasting tactical gameplay across rounds and experiences," although this will remain an area they will continue to monitor in future play sessions.
"Exploring new ideas for the future and receiving direct player feedback continues to be a crucial aspect of the Battlefield Labs process," EA wrote. "Even if some ideas never reach release, it helps us understand and refine elements that resonate most with players as we continue to build Battlefield together. It's been a valuable and exciting experience for our team and community so far, and we're looking forward to continuing that collaboration alongside you!"
Now that the core Battlefield 6 experience has been established, EA is looking to scale its Battlefield Labs testing globally. Throughout May, EA will invote more players across Europe and North America, as well as select areas of Asia, into the Battlefield 6 playtesting sessions
"Alongside testing new content, we'll continue to iterate on our initial focus areas, such as balancing the different weapon archetypes and damage values, as well as movement and combat pacing mechanics," EA confirmed. "Destruction also remains an ongoing topic across our play sessions. We’ll continue to test destructible objects across a variety of maps and fine-tune damage levels of surfaces."
Those who are interested in joining the Battlefield 6 play tests can still sign up through the Battlefield Labs website. Once you create a Playtester Profile using your EA Account, you'll have to answer a few questions based on your gaming preferences. Based on these responses, you'll receive playtesting applications via email.
EA has still not announced when Battlefield 6 will release, but the publisher has narrowed its release window. During a recent earnings call, EA announced that the next Battlefield will launch within the fiscal year 2026, which means sometime before March 2026.
Of course, EA will now face stiffer competition in 2026 as Rockstar just recently announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch in May. Granted, these two games attract very different gaming audiences, but it's still some very big competition, especially if gamers are strapped for cash and can only choose one.
