According to a new job listing from Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, next year's instalment in the long-running first-person-shooter franchise is for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's successors. Brought to light by Segment Next, the listing advertises an opening for an associate game designer and makes clear that the applicant will be working on a title for "an exciting, unannounced next gen title."
Available to read on LinkedIn, the listing continues: “In this hands-on role, you’ll collaborate with experienced Designers on creating and implementing new game features.” And we know this relates to Call of Duty, as it goes onto explain that the applicant must have "a strong interest and passion" for first-person shooters.
Call of Duty games come out annually in November, with this year's Black Ops 4 title being the first to deviate from that pattern, so could we really be seeing the debut of the PlayStation 5 and supposedly named Xbox Scarlet by next November? Well, Infinity Ward were responsible for Call of Duty's first curren-gen title - that being Call of Duty: Ghosts, which launched for last-gen as well as current-gen.
What do you think of the listing? Do you think it's plausible that the next generation of consoles could be with us as soon as the latter half of next year?
