Can Destiny 2 resurrect itself after a big Fall expansion? The Taken King did just that for the first Destiny game and Bungie is banking on this year's big fall expansion for Destiny 2 (set to be revealed on June 05), will do just the same. However, what does the future for the franchise hold? It's a well-known secret that a sizable chunk of staff at Bungie are already working on Destiny 3. And thanks to the lawsuit from composer Marty O'Donnell, it's also well-known that Bungie is on the hook for 4 Destiny installments.
Destiny 1 dropped in September 2014. Destiny 2 was released in September 2017. Applying logic, Destiny 3 should arrive in September 2020 and Destiny 4 should be released in September 2023. Five years might seem like a long time from now but bare in mind, it'as already been 4 years since the first Desinty game was released.
Perhaps the hectic schedules inflicted upon Bungie by Activision is the motivation behind the studio's deal with China's NetEase, which will reportedly net Bungie $100 million dollars. The move will allow Bungie to self-publish games without relying on Activision notes The WallStreet Journal.
