Warren Spector Would Make New DEUS EX As He "Screamed In Frustration Throughout Much Of HUMAN REVOLUTION"
Beloved Deus Ex and System Shock ceators Warren Spector has revealed that he would love to make a Mankind Divided sequel, even though he "screamed in frustration throughout much of Human Revolution..."
In April, Eidos Montreal Head David Anfossi revealed that the Deus Ex is definitely not dead, debunking the rumor that Square Enix has put the franchise on hold following Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s underwhelming sales, as the title reportedly failed to generate the level of sales needed to grow the series into a mainstream franchise. The latest report indicates that Eidos Montreal is currently developing two projects: Marvel’s Avengers game with Crystal Dynamics and a game focusing on Guardians of the Galaxy.
In a recent interview with VG247, Warren Spector, the mastermind behind the original Deus Ex and the System Shock series, revealed that he would "make another [Deux Ex] game in a heartbeat. I love that world. I love gameplay, [but] don’t hold your breath.” The facts that Eidos Montreal is pretty busy and just finished working on Shadow of the Tomb Raider suggest that we won't get a new Deus Ex anytime soon.
Spector would love to make a Mankind Divided sequel, but it doesn't mean that he actually fell in love with some Human Evolution mechanics. “If you ask my wife, she’d tell you that I screamed in frustration throughout much of Human Revolution,” Spector said. “There were three or four things that I would have done differently and those three or four things kind of bug me.”
While Spector clearly has some issues with the title, the Eidos Montreal team can be definitely proud of themselves. "Here’s the deal, the real bottom line. When I got to the end, I felt like I had had a Deus Ex experience. The team up there was really respectful of what we wanted to do in the original game and I think they did a really good job, with the exception of just a handful of things that frustrated me.”
Currently, Spector and the team at Otherside Entertainment are working on Underworld Ascendant that will serve as a sequel to Ultima Underworld: The Stygian Abyss which was released in 1992.
From the creative minds behind the acclaimed Ultima Underworld series, in Underworld Ascendant, Paul Neurath and Warren Spector's OtherSide Entertainment is innovating upon the series’ signature player-authored gameplay in bold new ways and bringing the ‘immersive sim’ genre forward in a breathtaking fantasy realm, rife with danger and full of intrigue.
Underworld Ascendant is scheduled for release on Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux on November 15, 2018.
