Rumours about
DOOM 64 being re-released
began back in July of last year, when the game was rated by the PEGI rating system, although nothing had been officially confirmed by the developers at the time.
It wasn't until September that
Bethesda finally announced that DOOM 64 was, indeed, making a comeback and would be releasing in November of the same year alongside
DOOM Eternal. Sadly,
both games ended up being pushed back, and would not see the light of day until the
20th of March.
In a recent interview with USGamer,
DOOM series Senior Developer James Haley revealed that fans still have even more to look forward to when it comes to the upcoming
DOOM 64, as he reveals that a brand-new chapter has been added to the classic game.
"
On our end, persistent players will have the opportunity to unlock a new chapter in the Doomguy's saga, taking place shortly after [Doom 64's] original campaign concludes," revealed Haley.
"
The Mother Demon you defeated in that outing had a sister, and since you've been messing up Hell non-stop, she tries to get rid of you by sending you away. If you can make your way back and take revenge, you’ll be rewarded with a bit of lore that fans of both series, new and classic, should enjoy," Haley continued.
DOOM 64 is one of the best regarded entries in the long-running demon-slaying series, as well as the game that most fans still haven't been able to play; mainly due to the fact that it hasn't been re-released since the game originally hit store shelves in March of 1997.
Now that Haley has confirmed that
DOOM 64 will be featuring a brand-new chapter, there is no excuse for fans to pick this game up on day one — which, by the way, is only 10 days away from releasing — since both
DOOM 64 and
DOOM Eternal will finally become available on the
20th of March.
Fight through demonic hordes, hunt down the Mother of Demons, and stop Hell's invasion as you battle through more than 30 action-packed levels. Be on the lookout for classic weapons and secrets to help you put an end to the demonic threat.
DOOM 64 will release for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC on the 20th of March.
