Bethesda and id Software really delivered when it came to getting people even more excited for
Doom Eternal—sequel to the highly acclaimed
Doom(2016). The game looks great, adds some interesting new mechanics that keep things familiar but somewhat fresh, and it seems to have a bit more lore added to it.
After the presentation at today's QuakeCon, Bethesda and Panic Button confirmed that the game was not only coming out for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, but also for the Nintendo Switch. For anyone unfamiliar with Panic Button, they're the same studio that managed to port the original
Doom(2016) to the Nintendo Switch, as well as
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.
Due to the Nintendo Switch's technical limitations, a lot of people thought that porting either of those games was simply not possible and yet Panic Button proved everyone wrong. While the Switch versions of
Doom and
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus are more than serviceable, there were some sacrifices that had to be made. Both games are locked at 30FPS instead of running at 60FPS, and graphics look less sharp than on the other consoles but, again, both are more than serviceable.
What will be interesting to see in
Doom Eternal for the Nintendo Switch, though, is the fact that other games were ports of the originals. For
Eternal, Panic Button may have been working on the game, alongside Bethesda and id Software, from the ground up, so it is likely that the game will run a lot better than its port counterparts. Whatever the case, it's great news for Nintendo Switch owners who want to slay demons on the go.
