Ports of the original
DOOM,
DOOM II, and
DOOM 3 were released today for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One; with
DOOM and
DOOM II also being released for iOS and Android devices, in a surprising announcement by Bethesda during QuakeCon.
GameXplain collaborator Daan Koopman revealed on his Twitter account that — in order to play any of the recently released
DOOM titles, players need to either log in to their Bethesda.net account or simply create a new account.
It doesn't end there, however, as he also realized that the Nintendo Switch versions of the games can't be played if Flight Mode is On; meaning that the games simply cannot be played when users aren't connected to the Internet — which is very odd considering the nature of the Nintendo Switch's portability.
Players who download and play the
DOOM ports on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are likely not going to be bothered by this, but Nintendo Switch users that like to play on-the-go hardly ever get to connect to the Internet. We'll just have to wait for Bethesda to touch on this, but chances are that they won't.
Play the games that started it all: DOOM, DOOM II, and DOOM 3 are available now on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4! DOOM and DOOM II are also now available on iOS and Android!
