A few months ago, a member of the
Fortnite subreddit
shared with the community an idea that his eight-year-old son, Connor, had for a new "Chicken Trooper" skin to be featured in the popular battle royale game. The idea blew up and it didn't take long for fellow
Fortnite fans to
create concept art for the skin, complete with a glider, pickaxe, and back bling designs.
Last week, an artist behind one of the designs confirmed that Epic had contacted them to add the skin into the game. Shortly after, feathers began to appear near the watchtower at Lonely Lodge, leading to speculation that the Chicken Trooper was coming. Indeed, the speculation was correct.
As of last night, the new Fowl Play set was added to
Fortnite's Item Shop. It includes the "Chicken Trooper"-inspired Tender Defender outfit. The Tender Defender outfit also comes with the Hatchback back bling, which is designed to look like a cracked egg. This outfit is available for 1,500 V-Bucks.
Also part of the Fowl Play set, but being sold separately as individual pieces are the Flappy Flyer glider (800 V-Bucks) and the Scrambler harvesting tool pickaxe (500 V-Bucks).
As you can see, just about all of the in-game designs remained faithful to the original concept art by etsyturtle2.
Following the skin's arrival in the
Fortnite item shop, the father
posted a message thanking the community for its help in making Connor's dream a reality.
"Thanks to everyone on Reddit who made this possible. You made his day. He is sporting a permanent grin. You guys made me the coolest dad alive," the dad wrote.
The Tender Defender no doubt looks like he would make a fantastic mascot for a fast food restaurant. Perhaps a future update to
Fortnite will add a fast food joint inspired by the character skin as well.
