For anyone not aware with the news, during this year's E3, Epic Games released
Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch; which was great news for fans of The Big N, who could now take the game anywhere they wanted.
While this was great news, players soon found out that they couldn't their Epic Games account on the Switch. This only happened to players who had already began playing
Fortnite on the PlayStation 4. This is mainly because Sony was locking the Epic Games accounts and making them only accessible when playing the game on the PlayStation 4.
The whole locked accounts debacle went on for a while until Sony finally decided to bow to the players' demands and allow cross-play with other video game consoles. Since then, Epic Games has been working on the Account Merge feature, which will allow to combine multiple console-linked accounts for players to transfer all of their progress without having to create a new account.
The Merge Account feature was supposed to release in November and, now that December is just around the corner, Epic Games has released a statement explaining players that this feature will no longer be coming out this year but early in 2019.
The blog posted on Epic Games' official website reads as follow:
“In November, we’re going to release an “account merging” system so you can combine multiple console-linked accounts to transfer Battle Royale cosmetic item purchases, lifetime wins, V-Bucks, and Save the World campaign access.”
Due to some ongoing technical concerns, we will be delaying the Account Merge feature until early next year. We want to make sure that this process is thoroughly tested and working properly before releasing it to those of you currently looking to transfer purchases from other accounts to your primary account. We’ll be sure to update you as we get closer to the release of the feature, which will include a web page on launch to help guide you through the flow!
Thank you for all of your patience while we continue to work on completing this tool.
