It seems it will soon be time to break out the Fishstick and Sun Strider skins as the ability to swim underwater is coming to Fortnite. While you simply couldn't swim in Fortnite for the longest time, Chapter 2 introduced a plethora of new mechanics and features such as swimming.
Currently, the player can swim at a regular walking speed or initiate "Freestyle Swimming" which is essentially sprinting but in water. What's more, there's also the "Dolphin Diving" technique which will quite literally see the player leap up and dive down like a dolphin would. However, for a while players have wanted the ability to dive below the surface.
Well, it seems that's coming soon. Recently, an animation was uncovered within the game files of Fortnite which quite clearly shows the player-character swimming as you would if submerged. Given that this animation wouldn't fit anywhere else, it seems that underwater swimming will be available in-game for a least a little while.
Many think that the ability to swim underwater will only be available during a special event as it would be too disruptive to usual gameplay. However, that's just speculation. Underwater swimming could very well be coming to stay for good. We'll just have to wait and see.
