From Family Guy to The Simpsons, Fortnite has collaborated with dozens of animated shows and franchises over the years. But one long-running animated TV series has eluded the battle royale game: South Park. Not for long though.

Epic Games has teased an upcoming collaboration in Fortnite that will see characters and cosmetics from South Park join the battle royale fray. The highly anticipated event will begin on Friday, January 9th.

The announcement was made alongside a single image of Butters at a PC with the line "Chaos, loading..." which could be a nod to his fictional alter-ego, Professor Chaos. This may even suggest Professor Chaos as a cosmetic skin or perhaps limited-time boss. You may also notice the lobby has five party slots, suggesting the arrival of the long-awaited five-player squads.

Beyond this single image, there's not much else to go on. Details remain elusive at the moment, but previous leaks have indicated that South Parks' main kids -- Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny -- will be available with multiple skins; however, because of their small cartoon proportions, they will join the game in mech suits. I personally would've preferred to see them join Fortnite with their Japanese warrior outfits seen in the iconic "Good Times with Weapons" episode from Season 8.

The collaboration is also rumored to tie into South Park: The Stick of Truth, the 2014 role-playing game from Obsidian Entertainment. The current rumor is that the Stick of Truth will be a Mythic item that could modify or influence the storm mechanic, perhaps changing its location or behavior. There are also rumors of a "Rift Anomoly," referred to as "Everyone Kills Kenny," would could grant players an extra respawn as a nod to the show's frequent killing of the character.

As with other collaborative events, this one could also feature limited-time boss characters, consumables, and new map elements inspired by the animated series. And, of course, we can expect the Item Shop to be updated with cosmetics that you can buy with V-Bucks, but we don't know exactly what this would entail. Maybe we'll get a South Park bundle with additional outfits, items, and emotes. Maybe there will even be some extra quests you can complete to earn some free items.

This is all pure speculation right now, but thankfully we only have to wait a few more days. The South Park event in Fortnite will kick off on January 9th.

While the South Park event is one of the most anticipated crossovers in Fortnite, it probably won't be nearly as large as the most recent collaboration with The Simpsons, which saw the entire map turned into Springfield, complete with a month-long season event and narrative arc. I'm hoping that we at least get some points of interest inspired by the the beloved mountain town. What would be even more awesome is if the South Park animated series actually releases an episode that also ties into Fortnite
