In anticipation of the theatrical release of
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Fortnite will be hosting a special sneak peek viewing party in-game. On Saturday, December 14, Risky Reels — the in-game drive-in theater — will be showing a scene from the upcoming movie.
According to the official Fortnite social media channel, doors will open at 1:30 p.m. ET. The scene will be shown at 2:00 p.m. ET. The poster also teases "with J.J. Abrams," suggesting we might get a special message from the movie's director beforehand.
Fortnite is no stranger to hosting special in-game events for big blockbuster movies. In fact, this isn't even the first time a scene from a Disney movie has been shown in-game. As Eurogamer notes, RIsky Reels played a brief clip from
Wreck-it Ralph to promote the release of its sequel,
Ralph Breaks the Internet, earlier this year. There have also been special game modes and cosmetics created for Marvel's
Avengers: Infinity War and
Avengers: Endgame.
This also isn't the first time
Fortnite has crossed over with
Star Wars. Last month, the game
added a special Imperial Stormtrooper cosmetic skin as a tie-in with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
As a free-to-play game, nothing is stopping fans from hopping into
Fortnite to watch the
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker preview scene next week. It's unclear if Disney will release the scene online afterward.
