Part of what makes
Fortnite stand out from other battle royale games is its building mechanic. Epic has made many adjustments to building in the past, but it's mostly been aimed at making the game more balanced for those who may not build as well as others. With that in mind, update v7.20 to the game will introduce a chance that'll help with wall placement.
"Have you ever tried building a wall and it builds partially below, or is obstructed by, the ground?" Epic asked in a post on the official
Fortnite subreddit.
"In the v7.20 update we’re introducing a change that should help placement in these circumstances!"
Basically, the new feature addresses issues when placing a wall that requires a connection to a building piece that is at least 70 percent underground. With the current system, you must first build that underground wall before you can place the aboveground wall that is likely the one that'll protect you from damage.
With the new change, the required connecting piece will now build automatically and for free (no material cost). Additionally, the connecting piece
"will inherit team ownership rules (and the material type) of the desired piece," Epic explained.
In additional comments, Epic says this change will only affect walls, but they are looking at applying to other builds as well, including stairs.
Epic has released a
before and
after video to show how wall placement will change when update v7.20 arrives.
