FORTNITE Update v7.40 Brings Gifting, Infantry Rifle, And Overtime Challenges To Unlock Season 8 Battle Pass

After a last minute issue delayed its release, Fortnite update v7.40 arrived this morning. The update packs the usual gameplay adjustments and weapon tuning, but it also introduces 20 new challenges that have a significant impact on Season 8.

Should you complete 13 of these 20 free Overtime Challenges by February 27, you will receive the Season 8 Battle Pass for free. Typically priced at around $10, the Battle Pass offers 100 tiers of cosmetic rewards for completing challenges, including a total of seven Outfits exclusive to the season.

Six of the Overtime Challenges are already live, and three of them actually require you to own the Season 7 Battle Pass as you must hit a certain tier to earn credit. The rest will be revealed over the next few days.

These special, limited-time challenges also offer individual rewards. In addition to the Season 8 Battle Pass, you can earn the specially-themed Valentine Wrap and Vines Contrail as well as new unlockable styles for the Trog, Powder, and Onesie outfits.

Gifting also makes a return with the update. From now through February 22, you can gift cosmetics from the Item Store to friends. And for Valentine's day, you can send the Heartspan Glider to your special someone for free until February 15.

Also debuting today is the Infantry Rifle, an accurate and precise semi-automatic weapon that deals 41, 43, and 45 damage with a 2x headshot multiplier.

New Limited Time Modes are coming. The "Catch!" mode removes all guns from the game and replaces them only with grenades and other items that can be thrown or tossed. The Team Rumble mode, featuring two large teams fighting for Victory Royale, will return as well.

New to Creative Mode is the ability to resize props using your in-game Phone. You can either grow or shrink props for the perfect fit. And for you musical creators out there, a Music Sequencer Device has been added,c omplete with looping, trigger settings, and tempo options as well as the ability to trigger other sequencers.

Full patch notes for Fortnite update v7.40, including all of the gameplay and weapon balancing, can be found over on Epic's website.
