Fortnite's Winter Royale Online Tournament, the next phase in the popular battle royale game's competitive play, is set to begin tomorrow with the Qualifier rounds.
As previously discussed by Epic Games, this Online Tournament system is being used to determine the participants in the Fortnite World Cup. The Winter Royale Online Tournament is a Solo event comprised of two parts: the Winter Royale Qualifiers and the Winter Royale Finals.
The Qualifier runs for two days from November 24 through November 25, with each day having three specific sessions open for competition (1:00pm-4:00pm, 5:00pm-8:00pm, and 9:00pm-12:00am). Your goal is the score as many points as possible in a session; however, only the highest score you achieve during any session will be the one that counts. You can earn points by eliminating multiple opponents and by being one of the last survivors in a match. The scoring breakdown is as follows:
-
3 Eliminations = +1
-
5 Eliminations = +1
-
7 Eliminations = +1
-
Reach Top 10 = +1
-
Reach Top 5 = +1
-
Victory Royale = +3
Reaching the 25 point mark will unlock a special pin, but does not at all affect qualifying for the Winter Royale Finals. The top performers in each region for NA and EU will be verified and invited to participate in the Winter Royale Finals for their region in December.
The recently released update v6.30 made major fixes to in-game tournament matchmaking and other bugs and should result in a more competitive experience. As explained by Epic:
For example, we found that players’ point totals were not influencing their matchmaking at all. Now, players will be correctly matched against opponents with similar point totals. The deeper you advance in a tournament, the more challenging the matches will become.
