Electronic Arts has announced that its Motive studios has branched out from Montreal to open up an office in Vancouver. The division in Montreal was founded in July 2015 by Jade Raymond, a former Ubisoft executive, the founder of Ubisoft Toronto and a producer on Assassin's Creed, Watch_Dogs, and Splinter Cell. In 2017, EA officially confirmed it's merged BioWare Montreal with Motive Studios.
Mitch Dyer, one of the writers behind Battlefront II, broke the news on Twitter, explaining the growing studio will be focusing on Star Wars, Plants vs. Zombies, and entirely new properties. "This is really cool. Motive has officially expanded to two offices!" she wrote. The new Motive office joins EA Vancouver in British Columbia, the studio best known for developing the annual FIFA and NHL games.
Raymond and her team most recently developed the single-player campaign in Star Wars Battlefront II, and was working on Visceral Games' now cancelled open-world Star Wars game known as Ragtag.
