EA has confirmed (via
IGN) that a sequel to Star Wars Battlefront will be released next year, while a separate Star Wars game from Visceral and Motive will likely follow in 2018. There's currently no word on who or what that one will revolve around, but the developers have confirmed that we should expect years releases from them set in a Galaxy Far, Far Away
"over the next 3 to 4 years."
The
Star Wars Battlefront news was to be expected (the first instalment may have been limited when it comes to offline options, but it's still sold over 14 million copies), but the exciting reveal here is that we have
"bigger and better worlds" to look forward to due to the fact that it will have
"the new movies to work off of," rather than the
"historical movies" which has led to the action being placed on planets like Hoth and Tatooine in the current iteration. However, this still leaves us with questions.
While the focus on the new movies will mean we can play as characters like Kylo Ren and Rey, what is that going to mean for popular modes like Walker Assault? Seeing as that's arguably the best part of
Star Wars Battlefront's online modes, EA will no doubt find a way to incorporate it somehow, but for now, at least fans of this franchise know that there's plenty to look forward to over the next few years!
