Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 was one of the games showcased during the E3 2018 at the biggest stages, even including Microsoft's. Set in Washington D.C., the MMO takes place seven months after a deadly virus was released in New York. While the Dollar Flu has been seemingly contained, its effects are most evident in the devastated streets of the proud nation's capital where the remaining survivors cling to hope and struggle to rebuild.
You can check out even more footage from
The Division 2 down below, featuring the mission we had a chance to see during the E3. Polygon has interviewed Terry Spier, creative director for North Carolina-based Red Storm which, along with Massive Entertainment, is helping to develop the third-person shooter. Players who expected to see a strong and clear political message may be disappointed.
"
You’re tired. You’ve been doing Division stuff elsewhere and you arrive in DC to find what it is that you’re going to find," Spier explained. "
And you’re going to rebuild and make sure that DC does not collapse, SHaDe [Strategic Homeland Division] does not collapse and that the nation does not collapse. And so should it be clear, we’re definitely not making any political statements. Right? This is still a work of fiction, right? Our job..."
Polygon asked him whether taking up arms against a corrupt government is a political statement, but the creative director only said that "
It’s not a political statement. No, we are absolutely here to explore a new city." Exploring the city should be more than enough, as Ubisoft Massive has designed a one-to-one recreation of Washington, meaning that the actual map will be bigger than
The Division's.
Washington D.C. is on the brink of collapse. Lawlessness and instability threaten our society, and rumors of a coup in the capitol are only amplifying the chaos. All active Division agents are desperately needed to save the city before it's too late. You are a member of the Division, an elite group of civilian agents charged with being the last line of defense. With DC at risk, it's time to gear up and use your unique skills to take on this new threat.
Tom Clancy's The Division 2 will be available March 15th, 2019 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
