A large complaint many gamers had about Destiny 1 was that much of the game's story was buried in the "grimoire"- a pseudo Destiny encyclopedia that revealed tons of details about the game's many worlds, enemies and overall conflict between the Traveler and the Darkness.

The problem, was that gamers had to access the grimoire outside of the game, on a seperate website.  However, Destiny 2 wil see Bungie doing away with grimoire cards and instead, put all of that lore inside of the actual game.

However, for those who actually took the time to collect all of the cards and asseble a complete grimoire, the title of Destiny 2's first Raid should prove very exciting.

[FINAL SPOILER WARNING]

Much of the grimoire cards in Destiny 1 were centered on how the Hive's origin and how they became servants of the Darkness.  The cards reveal the tale of how (pre-Hive) Oryx and his two sisters were looking to find a way to escape the destruction of their planet,  Fundament.  It was a gigantic gas planet that was going to be afflicted by a catastrophic natural disaster as the planet's 52 moons were poised to align, creating incredibly destructive tidal waves.

It is at this point, that the Hive Worm Gods (servants of the The Darkness) made contact with the proto-Hive and told them that a solution could be found at the deepest part of Fundament's ocean.  When they embarked upon this journey, they first came across the Leviathan, a disciple of the Traveler who had actively been working to keep the five Worm Gods imprisoned in Fundament's core.  The Leviathan tried to pursuade the proto-Hive explorers to turn back and follow the ways of the Light and the Traveler but when it offered no solutions for how to avoid the coming natural disaster, the proto-Hive chose to continue on.

Eventually, they reached the Worm Gods and entered into a pact that transformed the proto-Hive into the familiar Hive monstrosities that Guardians find buried beneath the Moon.  One of their first acts following the pact, was to desecrate their own planet, free the imprisoned Worm Gods and kill the Leviathan, whose massive corpse was fed to the Worm Gods Eir and Yul.

This is where the name of the Raid gets rather interesting, as it is reportedly titled "The Leviathan Raid".  That's seemingly a reference back to the Traveler disciple who was thought to have perished long ago.  Did it survive? Did Eir and Yul somehow convert the Leviathan into sevitude for the Darkness? Furthermore, the trophy for completing the Raid is titled, "Belly Of The Beast", which would imply that the Raid will see Guardians journeying inside the Leviathan for some unknown purpose.

This news also comes after the below concept art was leaked a few months back.  At the time, no one really knew what to make of it but the pieces are starting to fall in place after the leak of the PS4 trophy list.  Notice what appears to be a city on top of the Leviathan? Perhaps the Raid won't see Guardians venturing inside the actual beast but inside that forboding metropolis?
