Square Enix Ensures That DEUS EX Is Not Dead And Remains A “Very Important Franchise”

Eidos Montreal did a great job in continuing the original Deus Ex's legacy. The series' prequels, Human Revolution and Mankind Divided were both critically acclaimed projects. But there's always one thing for Square Enix's games that they rarely manage to accomplish - match the publisher's sales expectation. Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy XIV, Just Cause 3 all failed to please the Japanese corporation and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided sadly followed their footsteps. 

In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz Square Enix CEO, Yosuke Metsuda clarified the status of the series and ensured that its hiatus is only temporary. The break is understandable, as Eidos Montreal is developing an Avengers project for Marvel and maybe another Thief, but it's unlikely, as 2014's entry left the players with ambiguous feelings. 

"What I can say is Eidos Montreal has always developed Deus Ex, and the issue is we do not have limitless resources. We have several big titles that we work with and that's partly a factor in what our line-up looks like. Of course, it would be ideal if we could work on all of them all of the time, but the fact of the matter is some titles have to wait their turn. The reason there isn't a Deus Ex right now is just a product of our development line-up because there are other titles we are working on."

Metsuda also confirmed that they "are already internally discussing and exploring what we want to do with the next instalment of it". Unlike the future presented in the franchise, Deus Ex's future seems to be rather bright. But if you're expecting to continue your journey with Adam Jensen anytime soon, it's better to not get your hopes up.
