Machinima Announces Movie Adaptation Of Survival Horror Game F.E.A.R.

Warner Bros. Digital Networks' Machinima has struck a deal with screenwriter Greg Russo for a live-action movie adaptation of the popular survival horror game F.E.A.R.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment's survival horror game F.E.A.R. (aka First Encounter Assault Recon) is getting a live-action movie adaptation. Machinima, a division of Warner Bros. Digital Networks, announced a development deal with Greg Russo, the screenwriter of two upcoming feature films also based on iconic video game franchises: Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil, the latter being a reboot.

Released in 2005, F.E.A.R. is a first-person shooter with horror elements. The game revolves around the special forces team First Encounter Assault Recon who are called in to contain a "supernatural phenomenon" revealed as Alma Wade, a powerful psychic looking to exact revenge after being an unwilling participant in a series of experiments. The game went on to become a trilogy, with F.E.A.R. 3 released in 2011.

Under the deal, Russo will work closely with the Machinima Studios team to "create and develop original premium programming for outside buyers. F.E.A.R. joins an impressive portfolio of movie adaptations from Machinima of popular video games, including Mortal Kombat: LegacyStreet Fighter: Assassin's Fist, and Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn.
