Zombies are back in
Fortnite. With today's update, v10.10,
Fortnite saw a new Rift Zone open up, turning Megal Mall back into Retail Row. Only this time, there's an undead surprise waiting there.
Like a scene out of
Dawn of the Dead, Retail Row is filled with Fiends, which are essentially
Fortnite's version of zombies. The zombie Fiends are unable to leave the Retail Row Rift Zone, so you don't have to worry about them 24/7.
Epic first brought zombies into battle royale back in October 2018 during the game's Fortnitemares event. They were referred to as Cube Monsters and would automatically attack and run after you if you got too close. They would also destroy player-built structures. Killing Cub Monsters would, in turn, grant shields and even sometimes loot depending on the type of monster.
As you can see in the trailer, they return with some vengeance in Season 10.
In addition to the return of Zombies, today's update also unvaulted the Infinity Blade, although it's only available in the Sword Fights Squads and Duos LTMs.
Epic also addressed the overpowered nature of the B.R.U.T.E., adding a targeting laser that apepars as players load and fire missiles. This is to provide potential targets an idea of where the gunner is aiming their rockets before they are fired. The time before the B.R.U.T.E. explodes after the self-destruct countdown has initiated has also been increased to five seconds, up from four.
Additionally, Epic has made some changes to the frequency in which B.R.U.T.Es spawn. They will now spawn
"intermittently throughout the match instead of waiting for Storm phases to end." As a reminder, Epic previously reduced teh spawn rates of the B.R.U.T.E. per Storm circle in Arena and Tournament playlists, although the developer said they'll continue to monitor its impact on the game.
