Fortnite's controversial Drum Gun is back. During the "Unvaulting" live-event, the massive vault below Loot Lake opened up, transporting players inside the virtual warehouse that's home to past weapons and items that — for one reason or another — were no longer a fit for the battle royale mode.
In the vault, players were able to vote on what weapon or item they would want to return to the game by striking a massive pillar. In the end, the Tommy Gun won out and was returned to the game.
The Drum Gun was first introduced to
Fortnite with
the v4.5 Content Update in July of last year. Offering the stopping power of a rifle and the fire rate of an SMG, the Drum Gun was incredibly powerful upon release. While Epic
attempted to balance it with a nerf the following month, the developer ultimately decided it was best of the Drum Gun was sent to the Vault.
In September, the Drum Gun was vaulted with
Fortnite's v5.40 update where it has remained ever since. Epic never gave an explicit reason for sending the Drum Gun to the Vault, though many believed it was too overpowered. What's odd is that its return from the Vault didn't come with any sort of balance adjustments; it remains just as powerful as when it left the game.
On a related note, yesterday's event also saw the volcano erupt and
destroy Tilted Towers and Retail Row.
What do you think of the Drum Gun's return to
Fortnite?
