There's a rather big chance that FromSoftware's next major release,
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will be a refreshing experience. Unlike other modern
Souls-like tittles, the upcoming game (launching on March 22) won't feature any standard professions or classes to choose from and you should also forget about leveling up the protagonist's stats or equipment – there are no weapons of choice either.
In an interview with Game Informer, Director Hidetaka Miyazaki revealed how
Sekiro's range of motion will affect the core gameplay mechanics. “
The traversal options allow much more dynamic movement within the boss arena, both for yourself and the boss character themselves,” Miyazaki explained. “
Previously, you would have just had to run around a huge boss’ feet and hack away at his ankles, but now you have all these movement options; you can both fully use the extent of that arena.”
According to the acclaimed developer, the aforementioned lack of classes allows FromSoftware to focus more on a smarter design of encounters with bosses and bigger enemies, as all players will have the same abilities and in-game skills. Considering that Sekiro's offensive options are also limited, the studio doesn't need to care about core mechanics from their previous games like magic and archery.
That's not all, as the Game Informer crew has had a chance to check out
Shadow Die Twice's latest build and recorded some never-before-seen gameplay footage that you can check out down below:
Carve your own clever path to vengeance in an all-new adventure from developer FromSoftware, creators of the Dark Souls series. In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice you are the "one-armed wolf", a disgraced and disfigured warrior rescued from the brink of death. Bound to protect a young lord who is the descendant of an ancient bloodline, you become the target of many vicious enemies, including the dangerous Ashina clan. When the young lord is captured, nothing will stop you on a perilous quest to regain your honor, not even death itself.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will launch on March 22, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
