Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto VI is by far the most anticipated game over the past few years since it was first formally announced in 2023. But, with delays mounting and the ever-present concern over leaks, it sounds like Rockstar might have a solution that will no doubt irk some perspective buyers. Review codes may not be sent out, at least not before launch, and reviewers will have to be flown out to try the game in a closed location.
This rumor has been spreading around following Brazillian journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe making the bold claim on a podcast. Now, while it's understandable for Rockstar to take huge measures like this to ensure GTA VI isn't in danger of major leaks, it's also important to note that these sorts of claims have been verifiably false in the past. Think back to when it was rumored physical copies of the game would be delayed in order to prevent postal workers or retail employees from snagging a copy to have their 10 seconds of fame by leaking the whole game online. Said rumor was debunked by Take-Two Interactive's CEO, Strauss Zelnick.
In contrast, though, what could be the case is there will be a Grand Theft Auto VI event likely held in New York or perhaps Rockstar North's homeland of Scotland. This event, however, will be more of a preview event or one so extended that a reasonable journalist could form their own reviews from that event alone.
It's obvious Rockstar -- and its parent Take-Two -- are very closed about the game, only revealing it after they were pretty much forced to following a major leak that has since become known as the biggest leak in gaming industry history.
The game itself is set in a modernized Vice City where players follow the life of the criminal couple of Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as they must protect each other as they uncover a major conspiracy.
As it stands, Grand Theft Auto VI is poised to release on November 19 with pre-orders slotted to -- as rumor has it -- kick off as early as May 18.
