Last month, Larian Studios announced that they are already working hard on a new, unannounced title codenamed Project Gustav. In the last couple of years, Belgians have been focusing on the critically acclaimed Divinity: Original Sin series and achieved an amazing success as both games sold millions of copies worldwide and are remembered as the best-reviewed RPG games of 2014 and 2017.
According to Larian, this mysterious Gustav game is going to be "narrative, systems, multiplayer, new things, new ideas." The developers understand well that topping Divinity: Original Sin 2 won't be easy, but the latest rumor indicates that they may actually succeed as Larian has allegedly acquired the Baldur’s Gate license. This news originates from RPG Codex and user Bester who claims that his colleague is a former Larian employee who confirmed that Swen Vincke, the founder of Larian Studios, recently finalized the purchase of the Baldur’s Gate brand.
What's more interesting, Brian Fargo, the founder of Interplay Entertainment and inXile Entertainment, has revealed that he knows which studio is developing Baldur's Gate 3. It seems that Larian definitely might be working on a proper Baldur’s Gate 2 sequel and the fact that their last project, Original Sin II is one of the best RPGs of the decade, it's hard to imagine a better crew to tackle the subject.
The Divine is dead. The Void is everywhere. And Sourcerers are to blame. The Magisters of the Divine Order set out to cure Rivellon of the threat posed by Sourcerers. Sourcerers... like you. You’ve been captured and sent to Fort Joy, where you will be 'cured' of your affliction. A cure that may cost you dearly.
Divinity: Original Sin II - Definitive Edition is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
