Last week, Crystal Dynamics revealed that Kamala Khan A.K.A. Ms. Marvel will be a playable character in their upcoming
Marvel's Avengers video game. While this incarnation of the character seems to be particularly tied to the Avengers, she's usually more of a fan of Captain Marvel.
Since we caught our first glimpse of her back when Crystal Dynamics unveiled gameplay footage of the
"A-Day" prologue mission, many assumed that Captain Marvel must exist within the universe of
Marvel's Avengers simply by virtue of Kamala doing so. However, we haven't got outright confirmation until now.
At New York Comic-Con,
Comicbook.com asked the head of Crystal Dynamics whether Captain Marvel exists within the game's universe. Scot Amos simply replied as follows:
"Well put it to you this way, Kamala can't be a fan of someone who didn't exist."
Narrative Designer Hannah McLeod also mentioned the existence of Captain Marvel whilst describing the abilities and traits of Kamala Khan — as you can see below.
Speaking of those polymorph powers, Kamala's powers have to do with stretching and morphing her body into crazy shapes. She can also grow to amazing heights, or as she likes to call it Embiggen. These powers introduce a totally new element to our game and make our combat and exploration completely unique. And before you ask, Kamala still writes fan fiction. She still knows everything there is to know about the Avengers and yes, Captain Marvel is still her favorite. That is something she and our players have in common. They love these heroes.
The studio has confirmed that we'll be getting more heroes to play as after the game's launch — such as Hank Pym A.K.A. Ant-Man and Clint Barton A.K.A. Hawkeye. While confirmation that Captain Marvel exists within the game's universe doesn't necessarily mean that she'll become a playable character, you can only assume that Crystal Dynamics wouldn't want to pass up to opportunity.
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Marvel's Avengers will be available for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and PC on the May 15th, 2020.
