When we last saw Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy at E3, Star-Lord and the rest of the group were on their way to meet Lady Hellbender in hopes of negotiating a deal that would help them pay off a fine owed to Nova Corps. In the initial gameplay video, the decision was made to sell Groot to the notorious monster collector and then eventually double cross her by sneaking into her fortress and breaking their friend out. It's the perfect plan, right?
Well, as we see in the new clip that continues the adventure, Lady Hellbender isn't quite the fool the Guardians initially thought her to be. The complex personality of the queen of Seknarf Nine and leader of the Hellraisers poses some difficult choices the player will have to make when it comes to negotiating.
In this particular scene, players must decide whether to rely on Star-Lord's charm or hand it over to Drax in hope that he can leverage Lady Hellbender's interest to the team's benefit. The decision will ultimately determine how the narrative unfolds.
“Lady Hellbender is a fan-favorite character from Marvel’s recent comic lore, and we were keen to ensure her place in our Guardians universe reflects the complex personality, depth, and nature fans expect to see," said Eidos-Montréal's Cinematics & Animation Director Darryl Purdy. "And with humor instilled in every aspect of our game, this gave us an opportunity to flip expectations with the story and introduce an unexpected dynamic between her and a certain Destroyer.”
Lady Hellbender is just one of the many fascinating characters players will come across in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. It was explained that Performance capture was the main tool in bringing these characters and story to life with close to six hours of interactive cinematics.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is due out this October 26 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. A Cloud Version is also comign to Nintendo Switch in select regions.
