Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is now available and it's proven to be every bit as divisive and controversial as expected. While the premise of this story is right there in the title, many DC fans have been vocal in their disdain for the notion that the Justice League will be murdered by Task Force X.

Early on, the story reveals that Brainiac has attacked Earth and brainwashed the League into serving him. That leaves only the Suicide Squad, under Amanda Waller's orders, to stop them and save the planet from being conquered.

The Multiverse does eventually come into play and the deaths are handled in a way that potentially leaves the door open to each hero returning (after all, how many superheroes actually stay dead?). Ultimately, fans can also take solace in this being just one of many possible realities!

As for how each character dies, footage from the game has now found its way online showing the grisly demise of each Justice League member.

The Flash, for example, is killed by Task Force X when they gun him down after using anti-Speed Force technology. Superman murders Wonder Woman - she isn't affected by Brainiac - with his Heat Vision and, as we're sure you've heard, Harley Quinn shoots Batman.

Finally, Superman is killed by the villains when they utilise weapons made from Gold Kryptonite.

Rocksteady decided against sending out review codes for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League before its release and the response so far has been pretty tepid. Many of the complaints come from not just the controversial story but the fact it's a live-service game and lacks the polish of the Batman: Arkham series.

It's hard to escape the feeling that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will tarnish the Arkham trilogy's legacy and Rocksteady's standing as a premium game developer. For a time, it sounded like they were working on a Superman title but this effort - which, troublingly, seems to be in the same vein as Marvel's Avengers - is what we're getting instead.

From Rocksteady Studios, the creators of the Batman Arkham series, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a genre-defying third-person action shooter where the ultimate band of misfits must do the impossible to save the world: Kill the Justice League.

The game will be released on February 2 on all major platforms. You can check out the character deaths below but be warned that spoilers follow!
