Microsoft has invested a whopping $1 billion into OpenAI, a move that should bode well for gaming. The plan right now is for the group to use Azure as the exclusive Cloud service provider to develop artificial general intelligence.
Not only that, but both companies will work together in a bid to create full-fledged Azure AI technologies for future use. Furthermore, the idea is there to create platforms within the Azure cloud service that are able to scale to artificial general intelligence.
"OpenAI is producing a sequence of increasingly powerful AI technologies, which requires a lot of capital for computational power," OpenAI chief technology officer Greg Brockman explained in a blog announcing the partnership. "The most obvious way to cover costs is to build a product, but that would mean changing our focus. Instead, we intend to license some of our pre-AGI technologies, with Microsoft becoming our preferred partner for commercializing them."
We should point out that OpenAI has taken a stab at gaming in recent times. The company created AI players that defeated Team OG at two games of DOTA 2 at the world championship competition.
