Video game sales in the United States has fallen by a whopping 18 percent in the month of August, according to the NPD group. This should come as no surprise because gaming revenues in 2019 has been on the low side since the beginning of the year.
According to the report, this is the weakest August software sales in over 20-years, and this has much to do with the decline in hardware sales. As gamers prepare for the announcement and release of new consoles in 2020, it makes sense for hardware sales to decline, but software sales is another problem in itself.
From what we have gathered, year-over-year, the United States gaming market sales managed to slip by $666 million where hardware, software, and accessory are concerned. As it stands, then, consumer spending on games are down by 6 percent when compared to the same August period of last year.
Now, software sales have risen, but only slightly so, therefore, not enough to offset the loss of declining hardware sales.

Interestingly enough, not a single Microsoft exclusive exists on this list, which shouldn't be too surprising when we consider what the company has pumped out in recent years.
