The fact that Microsoft has recently announced the acquisition of Obsidian Entertainment shouldn't come as a big surprise, as the beloved RPG-focused developer has been facing financial problems following the underwhelming sales results of their latest title, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, the acclaimed studio's another attempt on recreating the magic of Planescape: Torment and Baldur’s Gate.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire initially launched for PC in April, with the promised console versions scheduled to release at some point in 2018. Considering that the year is slowly coming to an end, it's pretty clear that the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One ports will miss their mark, as Obsidian has officially announced that the console editions have been pushed back altogether to 2019.

"[..] we promised to have more information regarding Deadfire's console release,' Obsidian said. "As we stated, our partners at Grip Digital have been hard at work, and Deadfire will be releasing on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch in 2019! We are pleased to also announce that the console edition will ship with all expansions, updates, and free DLCs included at launch! We don't have an exact date for you yet, but as soon as we have one, we will let you know!"

In addition to the recent update on the state of the console release, Obsidian has launched a major Deadfire DLC titled The Forgotten Sanctum that gives you and your companions a chance to traverse an expansive dungeon built into the flesh of a sleeping god and scheme with or defy the wills of Eora's powerful wizards. Check out a new Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire - The Forgotten Sanctum trailer below:

The god Eothas, once thought to be destroyed, returns to life in the form of a titanic statue – nearly killing you as he destroys everything in his path. It’s up to you, the Watcher of Caed Nua, to discover Eothas’ purpose and decide to help or hinder his efforts. With an enormous open world, a massive cast of characters, beautiful hand-painted backgrounds, and a story you can play your way, Obsidian Entertainment is proud to bring you Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire.

Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire is available for PC NOW, coming to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One in 2019.
