Respawn Entertainment Shipped STAR WARS JEDI: FALLEN ORDER Despite Being Aware Of Bugs

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released on November 15th, 2019. The action-adventure game takes place between Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV — A New Hope. You play as a padawan who survived the devestating events of the Jedi Purge A.K.A. Order 66. The game went down quite well with players for the most part.

By January, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order had become Respawn Entertainment's best-selling game — more on that here. However, there were some players whose Star Wars experience was hindered by glitches, bugs, and the like. Suffice it to say, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order wasn't the most stable game at launch.

Vince Zampella, the CEO of Respawn Entertainment, recently admitted as such in an interview with USGamer. What's more, the CEO revealed that Respawn were fully aware of the bugs but decided the release window was too good to pass up.

"Yeah, it was a conversation that we had and we decided that we wanted the game out there, we wanted to get it, you know, being out for the holiday. It's a game that really fits that timeframe," Zampella told the site. We can only imagine that having both Electronic Arts and Disney breathing down their neck would have played a part in Respawn's decision.

Not only is the holiday season generally an appealing time to release something for obvious reasons; Star Wars was a hot topic back then what with both Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker and The Mandalorian debuting within that timeframe. 

Stig Asmussen, the game's director, promptly confessed that he believes the game would have frankly been better if it had spent a little more time in the oven. While that's certainly interesting, it isn't like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was a flop critically nor financially — in fact, it was quite the opposite.

"I think we're in a situation [where] we're trying to build a game for several different systems and we wanted to hit a date, obviously. We all look at it, and earnestly we feel like we could, if we had a little bit more time, it would've been better. But at the same time, we could play through it," said Asmussen. "It was good and we felt like fans were going to like it."

Thankfully, most if not all of the game's bugs have been ironed out at this point.
