NACON and Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) have announced plans for a Robocop video game.
The new game, titled RoboCop: Rogue City, is based on the first three films in the original RoboCop universe but features a new story. Players will step into the metallic suit and play as RoboCop himself and experience a story and gameplay that is "faithful to the franchise's DNA."
A brief teaser for the game was announced, taking us on a flight through Old Detroit where crime has soared to new heights. We hear the broadcaster explain how authorities are overwhelmed despite OCP insisting the situation is under control. But, of course, there's the real question as to who will finally bring peace and safety to the city. Spoiler, it's you — RoboCop.
RoboCop: Rogue City is slated for a 2023 release even though the franchise is celebrating its 35th anniversary next year. The game is planned to launch on consoles and PC, but no other specifics have been detailed.
RoboCop: Rogue City will be devleoped by Teyon, the studio behind the Terminator: Resistance video game.
“We’re very much looking forward to collaborating with NACON and Teyon to bring one of MGM’s most timeless I.P.’s back to gaming platforms with a brand-new story," said Robert Marick, Executive Vice President Global Consumer Products and Experiences, at MGM. "The film is known for gripping action and complex storytelling, and we are excited for RoboCop fans to experience this first hand through the game.”
