Epic Games, most predominantly known for being the studio behind
Fortnite, announced last week that they had acquired, Psyonix, the studio behind
Rocket League. Naturally, many fans of the car-soccer game were opposed to this news. Many believe that
Rocket League will be removed from Steam on account of this acquisition and moved over into the Epic Games Store.
Since the announcement of Psyonix's purchase, over three-thousand negative reviews have been added to
Rocket League's
Steam page. These reviews, while negative, are evidently made by people who are fans of the game itself. This assortment of unfavourable reviews consist of fans voicing their disapproval of the acquisition.
Clearly many players, who have been playing
Rocket League through Steam for years, are disheartened and annoyed by the decision. Many reviews state that, while it may be fruitful for Psyonix as a company, it will most likely prove to have the opposite affect for the player-base.
This is by no means the first review bombing on account of an Epic Games acquisition.
Metro Exodus was pulled from Steam and moved into the Epic Games Store, this prompted simliar negative reviews. Borderlands 3 was announced as an Epic Games Store exclusive just last month and since then, its predecessor,
Borderlands 2 was hit with negative reviews.
