During BlizzCon 2021, Blizzard announced that Diablo II: Resurrected, a faithful remaster of Diablo II and its expansion Lord of Destruction, will be releasing this year.

Released in 2000, Diablo II is one of the most beloved action role-playing games of all time and helped define the genre. Its expansion built upon it with the addition of two new character classes, a fifth act where players got to face Baal, and tons of new weapons and loot.

Diablo II: Resurrected is mostly a visual upgrade of the original game "with full 3D physically-based rendering, dynamic lighting, revamped animations and spell effects—all stunningly delivered in up to 4K resolution." The game's cinematics have also been completely remade -- shot for shot -- from the ground up.

From a gameplay perspective, Diablo II: Resurrected should play the same, or better even, than you remember as Diablo II's signature gameplay and systems are "completely intact." Blizzard has taken some player feedback into account and has made quality of life improvements, such as implementing a shared stash between all of your characters.

Blizzard, unfortunately, offered no release date for Diablo IV at BlizzCon. With the next chapter in the series expected to launch sometime in 2022, hopefully, Diablo II: Resurrected will satisfy fans and keep them occupied while waiting.

Diablo II: Resurrected also doesn't have an exact release date but is coming to PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and Nintendo Switch later this year.

It looks absolutely incredible!!! A bit stiff, but that’s likely do to running over the old sprites. Which makes it a bit weird that they wanted to use the Command & Conquer/Halo remakes of fast switching between the old and new, that worked beautifully for those games due to keeping the 2D/3D models the same style.
