FINAL FANTASY XIV Developer Casts Doubt On The Possibility Of The Game Coming To Google Stadia
Despite the hopes of many passionate fans, Naoki Yoshida, the director and lead producer of Final Fantasy XIV, has opened up on the possibility of the MMORPG coming to Google Stadia sometime in the near future.
Following the somewhat recent confirmation that Final Fantasy XIV would be coming to the Xbox One, and the news that Final Fantasy XV would be available on Google Stadia, many fans have been hopeful that the MMORPG would also make its way to Stadia or the Nintendo Switch.
Now, while speaking with Wccftech, Naomi Yoshida has commented on the possibility of the title coming to the two platforms, and while he didn't shut down the idea of it coming to the Switch, he did cast doubt on a Stadia version.
"We have been working on testing on the cloud,” Yoshida said. “They have their own game servers and there would be two different types of data communication happening: one is the rendering and the other is that there has to be communication between game servers. In relation to other games, there’s one communication line for the cloud service. That can make it complicated to work through."
In short, he notes that the addition of a new layer of server communication that a streaming-only platform brings complicates the ability to bring an MMORPG like Final Fantasy XIV to the Stadia. Additionally, he revealed that he is aware there is an "issue with current communication speeds" and how it makes it difficult for players to stream and play games.
Although currently available on the PlayStation 4 and PC, no release date has been set for the Xbox One port of Final Fantasy XIV.
