Season 8 of Diablo IV, Belial’s Return, launches April 29th at 10 AM PDT, and marks the long-awaited return of the Lord of Lies. Players will confront mysterious Apparition Monsters, harness powerful new Boss Powers, and delve into revamped Lair Boss fights across Sanctuary. A new questline, cosmetic rewards system, and restructured loot mechanics create the most content-rich Diablo IV season to date.
Here is the official trailer for the 8th season of Diablo IV, as well as a screenshot showing the roadmap of content and what you can expect to arrive during the next few months of the game.
Uncover the Truth Behind Belial’s Schemes
Players team up with Sayeena, a retired mage, and Jarius, a knight of the Cathedral of Light, to battle Belial’s deception. Completing the main campaign and starting a new character on the Seasonal Realm is required to begin.
New Boss Power System Deepens Build Customization
Boss Powers are special abilities gained from defeating bosses. Each has a Main effect and one of several Modifier effects. You can equip:
-
1 Main Boss Power
-
Up to 3 Modifier Powers
There are 24 Boss Powers total, and players can earn them by slaying World Bosses, Apparition Bosses, or Lair Bosses.
New Apparition Incursion Event
Belial’s Apparition Monsters appear across Sanctuary. Defeating them leads to a mini-boss encounter and eventually Belial himself. These events:
-
Rotate locations regularly
-
Are open to all difficulties
-
Provide Boss Powers and seasonal Reputation to exchange for rewards
Revamped Lair Boss System
Lair Bosses (formerly Endgame Bosses) are now categorized:
-
Initiate (e.g., Grigoire, Beast in the Ice)
-
Greater (e.g., Duriel, Andariel)
-
Exalted (Belial)
Lair Boss Keys are required to open a loot Hoard after defeating a boss. Bosses no longer drop loot directly but spawn personal Hoards for each party member to open with keys. New mechanics prevent loot theft and encourage fair group play.
New Battle Pass System: Reliquaries
Replacing the old system, Reliquaries are themed reward tracks unlocked using Favor Tokens, which are earned through regular gameplay. Players choose which cosmetics to unlock and in what order.
There are 4 Battle Pass Reliquaries:
Each contains cosmetic items and part of the Guise of the Deceiver armor set as a bonus reward for completion.
Deluxe Bundle (2,800 Platinum) includes:
Season Blessings & Ashes Moved to Season Journey
Smoldering Ashes now reward Season Blessings through Season Journey objectives. New Blessings include:
-
Urn of Lies (increased Belial spawns)
-
Urn of Glyphs (extra glyph upgrades)
-
Urn of Masterworking, and more
Other Notable Changes
-
Season 8 adds new Legendary and Unique Items for each class
-
Reliquaries are now active for Eternal Realm players
-
Lair Bosses drop more loot and now support teleportation and location tracking
-
Store items like Battle Pass Tokens have been adjusted accordingly
-
New players can freely access seasonal events, but only post-campaign
