The Witcher live-action series released on Netflix in December of last year, and it was immediately embraced, with arms wide open, by fans of The Witcher; praising the cast, story, production, and over all quality of the show. Netflix has already revealed that Season 2 of The Witcher is currently in the works, and expected to release in 2021.
The show has done so well, in fact, that Netflix has already announced an anime film in the form of The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, so fans will have even more Witcher to quench their thirst for this insanely popular series.
Today we have some great news for fans of The Witcher, as Netflix has officially announced a spin-off prequel series titled The Witcher: Blood Origin, which is being produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and written by Declan de Barra — who has been credited as writter for Netflix's Iron Fist and CW's The Originals series.
Netflix also reveals that The Witcher: Blood Origin will consist of only 6 episodes, and will be set 1200 prior to series main protagonist Geralt of Rivia, as it will be covering — as the spin-off series' name very appropriately suggests — the origins of the very first Witcher.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich took to twitter to express her enthusiasm, and revealing that she's always wanted to dive deeper into the myth of the Continent, and that The Witcher: Blood Origin was quite the tough secret to keep.
