CD Projekt Red used Gamescom Opening Night Live to give players their first full look at The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past. The new expansion returns players to the role of Geralt of Rivia in an original story designed to bridge the gap between The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and the upcoming Witcher 4. It is scheduled to release in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The announcement arrived more than a decade after Blood and Wine, the last major expansion for the 2015 classic. Songs of the Past places Geralt in the new region of Letten, a peaceful-looking land that hides darker secrets beneath its surface. The trailer shows Geralt exploring overgrown, atmospheric environments and confronting new threats, including warped tree-like creatures.

Songs Of The Past Synopsis: This full-fledged third expansion takes the White Wolf on a new adventure to the peaceful realm of Letten, where dark secrets lurk beneath the surface… Coming in 2027 to GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
One notable addition is a new chain weapon for Geralt. The tool draws visual and functional connections both to Ciri’s combat style in The Witcher 4 and to classic moments from earlier Witcher stories. Doug Cockle returns to voice Geralt, maintaining continuity with the performance that defined the character for many players.
Alongside the expansion reveal, CD Projekt Red announced The Witcher 3 Remastered, a substantial technical and visual overhaul of the base game. The update will be free for all existing owners and is scheduled to launch on September 29, 2026. The remaster is intended to modernize the presentation and performance of the original adventure ahead of the new expansion.
A playable version of Songs of the Past is available on the Gamescom show floor. CD Projekt Red is offering guided presentations at its booths in both the business and entertainment areas throughout the event, giving attendees an early chance to experience the new content.
Songs of the Past represents a rare return to a completed single-player RPG more than ten years after its final previous expansion. By reconnecting Geralt’s story to the events that will lead into The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red is using the expansion both as a farewell to the White Wolf’s central role and as a narrative bridge for the next era of the franchise.
The expansion is set for a 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The free Remastered update for the base game arrives first on September 29. Further details on story, length, and exact launch timing within 2027 are expected in the coming months.
