Despite the record-setting most of the world is currently enduring, a snow day is coming. THQ Nordic revealed this week a brand new South Park co-op game, set to arrive in 2024.
South Park: Snow Day follows Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny on a quest to save the world and enjoy a day without school thanks to a snow day. The game was revealed through a minute-long trailer featuring Cartman, standing outside of Jimbo's Guns store in his signature Grand Wizard King costume, giving an impassioned speech about how a snow day is "the most magical of days in a young child's life."
The clip then turns to pure chaos as we get a brief look at some of the chaotic co-op gameplay featuring South Park's kids, dressed in fantasy garb, battling across fiery, snowy fields. It's hard to make out exactly everything that's going on, but combat is set in a snowy 3D environment, which is quite different than the 2D visuals we're used to seeing from South Park in games like Ubisoft's South Park: The Stick of Truth and its sequel South Park: The Fractured but Whole. We don't know how in-depth the combat will actually be, although we do get to see a variety of weapons and attacks as well as some unique traversal options. At one point we see the character run onto a snow shovel and use it to launch himself like a catapult.
South Park: Snow Day is being developed by Question Games, an indie game studio best known for the unique sandbox-like game The Magic Circle. The game doesn't yet have a release date but is expected to launch in 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
South Park: Snow Day is one of many games coming from THQ Nordic that was shown off during the publisher's digital showcase this week. Another intriguing game revealed was TMNT: The Last Ronin, a single-player action RPG based on the popular comic book series.
