Spelunky is a rogue-lite 2D platformer developed and published by independent studio Mossmouth that was released for Windows in 2008—getting Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions in 2012 and 2013, respectively.
The game was favourably received by critics and players, getting almost perfect scores from video game outlets. Being a rogue-lite game,
Spelunky drew inspiration from dungeon crawler games but adding its own unique touch by having randomly generated levels.
After nearly a decade since
Spelunky came out, Mossmouth announced in October of 2017 that
Spelunky 2 was in development and would be releasing for the PlayStation 4 and Steam in 2019.
Today, we get the first gameplay trailer for
Spelunky 2 that shows off some offline and online multiplayer, as well as introducing us to the new characters: Ana Spelunky, Roffy D. Sloth, Margaret Tunnel, and Colin Northward.
