Square Enix has announced a new and important collaboration agreement with Tencent, the Asian giant of the world of videogames and telecommunications. Both companies have affirmed to establish a team that will benefit both parties.
Creating new games, licenses and strengthening existing ones.
This agreement will have a global resonance and seeks to strengthen the presence of both companies in all the videogame markets. “Square Enix Group is making tireless efforts to offer unique content experiences to its fans all over the world through multifaceted business deployment," the statement said. A statement that emphasizes that both Square Enix and Tencent will develop new triple A production licenses, as well as undertake the development of new titles based on existing properties.
“We have strong expectations for this strategic alliance with Square Enix Group. The alliance will enable us to couple our broad range of internet service capabilities to Square Enix Group’s superb creativity, and provide our customers with unprecedented content experiences on a global basis.” explained Steven Ma, Tencent's senior vice president.
“Tencent Group and Square Enix Group share the vision of utilizing technology and creativity to deliver unprecedented entertainment experiences and services to a global audience. This newly established alliance will be a strong boost to Square Enix Group’s strategy to diversify our content offerings and expand access channels to a wider customer base,” concluded Yosuke Matsuda, president of Square Enix.
Tencent continues to expand
A few days ago, Tencent announced that it was closing a large agreement with Activision to make an exclusive Call of Duty videogame in the Asian market, and reaffirmed its intention to compete against Steam with its WeGame gaming platform. Unknown to many, Tencent has extensive participation in the majority of video game developers and publishers.
