Square Enix Hopes MARVEL'S AVENGERS Will Be As Big Of A Success As SPIDER-MAN PS4
Marvel's Spider-Man was a huge hit with fans and gamers everywhere, and now the president of Square Enix says they hope to capture some of that success with the release of Marvel's Avengers. More past the jump.
Last year, Marvel and Insomniac Games took the world by storm with the release of Marvel's Spider-Man, a PlayStation 4 exclusive that was met with praise from fans and critics alike.
Now, with Marvel's Spider-Man no longer in the spotlight all eyes have turned to Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics' forthcoming Avengers game. While most fans were interested in the superhero title ahead of E3 2019, the release of the game's first trailer soured a number of fans on the project, with many criticizing the character designs.
However, in a recent interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda revealed that despite the backlash they are working hard to make Marvel's Avengers a success comparable to Spider-Man.
"Spider-Man was a huge title and a major success, so we would like to work hard to have that kind of success. So I guess it did increase my expectations [for Avengers]. I do believe you have to have high goals. I thought that Spider-Man was fantastic, but we don't want to be bested by them. We are working very hard on the development effort right now, so that we are able to provide a new experience."
Matsuda also revealed that it's because of their high hopes for the Marvel title that Square Enix decided to work with five other studios, as "resources are too limited" for one studio to develop a game of this magnitude alone.
Marvel's Avengers is scheduled to be released on May 15, 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
