Zynga's free-to-play arena shooter Star Wars: Hunters is shutting down. The developer announced today that the game will receive one final content update in April before its online servers are officially shut down in October.
Season 5 will be extended by three more weeks beginning March 25th and will feature a re-runn of events and shop bundles from the Season. The Ranked Season will also be extended, which will give players more time to hit Kyber 1 rank.
The final content update for Star Wars: Hunters will launch on April 15th for free. In-gane purchases will also be disabled across all platforms.
Unfortunately, Crystal purhcases will not be refunded. "The intention of the 30-day notice we are giving between March 14th and turning off in-app purchases on April 15th is to give players ample time to prepare and spend the in-game currency they have purchased," Zynga justified in the FAQ.
The content update iwll introduce the new Support Hunter, Tuya, who iwll be immediately playable for all useres at no extra cost. A final Ranked Mode leaderboard will run during this season as well.
On October 1st, the online servers will officially shut down. At this point, Star Wars: Hunters will no longer be playable.
"Thank you for being a part of this incredible journey and for the time you’ve spent playing Star Wars: Hunters," Zynga said.
Developed by Zynga, Star Wars: Hunters launched for Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android device on June 4, 2024. The game was supposed to launch on PC in January of this year but was delayed with no new date given. That probably should've been the first sign that trouble was brewing behind the scenes.
Star Wars: Hunters takes between the event of Episode VI and Episode VII, tafter the fall of hte Galactic Empire. Players fight in areans inspired by Star Wars locations with a diverse cast of characters available. THe game received mixed reviews, although there are only a few critics reviews to go by on Metacritic. The general consensus from those that did play it was that Star Wars: Hunters was a solid free-to-play arena shooter, but it really brought nothing new to the genre. Facing so much stiff competition, even being a free-to-play game couldn't draw a large enough audience to justify keeping the servers online.
If you haven't played it, Star Wars: Hunters will remain available for download and playable until October 1, 2025.
