STARFIELD: Gameplay From Bethesda's Ambitious Sci-Fi RPG Finally Revealed

Get ready for an epic journey into the stars as Bethesda showed off 15 minutes of gameplay from its highly anticipated sci-fi RPG Starfield, coming next year to Xbox and PC.

Microsoft saved the best for last, closing out the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase with an extended look at Starfield gameplay. It was the first time we've actually seen gameplay footage and it didn't disappoint.

The 15-minute reveal gave us a look at many of the mechanics that make up Starfield's gameplay, including planet exploration, combat, character customization, and even space travel. Starfield is an open-world sci-fi RPG in which you're a part of Constellation — the last group of space explorers seeking rare artifacts scattered throughout the galaxy. As you navigate the vast expanse of settled systems, you'll meet various factions, some of whom will want to work with you and others that will want to stop you.

A good portion of the footage focused on the role-playing aspect of Starfield. In addition to customizing your character's appearance, you'll be able to assign them optional traits that can affect your gameplay. There's also a skill system that combines the best from Bethesda's previous games. You unlock new skills as you level up and rank up those individual skills as you use them and complete challenges.

Customization doesn't just apply to your character, but to your ship as well. You'll be able to build your own ship from an assortment of modules from various manufacturers and then take that ship into space. As you navigate the stars, you'll also engage in ship-to-ship space combat.

After being delayed from its originally scheduled November release, Starfield will now launch in 2023. It will be available exclusively on Xbox consoles and PC.
