Sonic Mania Plus is an add-on to the original Sonic Mania released for consoles and PC back in August of 2017. The Plus extension will become available as a free update for players who already owned
Sonic Mania, as well as being released for the first time ever in physical form.
The
Sonic Mania Plus package will include the physical copy of the game—with holographic package—as well as a reversible classic Sega Genesis cover, a 32-page Art Book, 4-player competition mode, and two new playable characters: Mighty and Ray.
Today, the official
Sonic the Hedgehog YouTube channel has released the first episode in a miniseries of two dev diaries. The first diary has Creative Director of Sonic Team, Kayuzuki Hoshino and Art Director for
Sonic Mania Plus, Tom Fry, talking about Mighty and Ray, the game's art style, the differences between Mania Mode and Encore Mode, and sharing a few anecdotes about meeting each other—keeping in mind that
Sonic Mania was mainly developed by a new group of people known for their
Sonic ROM hackings, and fan games.
