Announced last year, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is a sequel to the 2023 animated film by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jeff Rowe. The game will feature the same painterly art style as the movie and offer a similarly humorous narrative.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem will pick up after the events of the film. Although the turtles have now been accepted by society following their heroics against Superfly, their dream of attending high school as everyday students is interrupted by a new wave of mutants invading New York City.
A 3D brawler/platformer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem is playable in solo or two-player co-op mode. Each of the four turtle brothers has their own unique playstyle and ninja skills to help restore peace to the city.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem still doesn't have a release date, but is expected to launch later this year.
"It's exciting to launch our first console game set in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem universe, especially as the franchise only continues to grow," Doug Rosen, SVP, Games and Emerging Media, Paramount, said during last year's announcement. "The vibrancy of this new film's animation lends itself perfectly to video games, and we can't wait for everyone to play it."
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie was a smash hit with critics and fans alike. The film boasts a 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% Audience Score. Critics praised the unique visual style and a "story that captures the essence of the franchise's appeal." Unlike other films and shows in the franchise, Mutant Mayhem emphasized the teenage aspects of the turtles, exploring themes of acceptance and desires to fit in.
In addition to the game, a sequel and a two-season 2D animated series based on the film have already been greenlit.
