Typhoon Studios, founded in 2017 by
Far Cry 4 and
Assassin's Creed III director Alex Hutchinson, finally revealed their first major game during The Game Awards 2018. The cinematic announcement trailer for
Journey to the Savage Planet focuses on the outlandish tone of the story and its main hero, who works for Kindred Aerospace, the “
fourth best interstellar exploration company," as voted by its P.R. team.
"
The core tenets of Typhoon are strong flavors, lots of intertwined systems, a penchant for bad jokes and a deep and abiding love of collaborative play,” said Alex Hutchinson, creative director. “
Journey to the Savage Planet will encompass all of those things and more.” Considering that this alien world definitely is an uncharted one on the far corners of the universe, you will have a lot of exploring to do.
At its core,
Journey to the Savage Planet is an upbeat first-person adventure game, but unlike some games nowadays, there's no procedural generation here. According to Hutchinson,
Journey will allow you to visit a series of hand-crafted biomes, and while the game has a scripted story, Typhoon is trying to avoid forcing you to watch cut-scenes if you just want to explore the world. Take a look:
Journey to the Savage Planet is an upbeat first-person adventure game set in a bright and colorful alien world filled with weird and wonderful creatures. As an employee of Kindred Aerospace, which proudly touts its rating as the “4th Best Interstellar Exploration Company”, players will be dropped onto an uncharted planet deep in a fictitious, far-away corner of the universe. Launched with high hopes but little equipment and no real plan, players are tasked with exploring, cataloging alien flora and fauna and determining if the planet is fit for human habitation.
